April 8th, 2022Corporate and property-level MMI team members were recognized by Marriott's full-service hotel leadership team for their successful opening of The Memphian, a Tribute portfolio property. While there were many hotels to have opened even into the still distressed 2021 COVID market, only four hotels were designated as finalists for the efforts made in designing and developing a localized concept and guest committed to prior to opening and met or exceeded their expectations upon experiencing the hotel as a guest.
May 5th, 2021May 4, 2021 marks the opening of The Memphian Hotel, a Tribute Portfolio property, in Overton Square. Four years in the making, this boutique asset has been creatively customized to fit into the character of midtown Memphis. As General Manager Eldon Pico noted in his opening night toast, "Once you stay at The Memphian, you are a Memphian!"
The MMI leadership team worked as co-developer and management company for the positioning and programming to ensure brand essence, boutique design, and bespoke service model all made sense for ownership, the operating team and their guests. MMI has experience in this realm of work for nearly fifty years.

January 13th, 2021After 40 years of service, Gaines Sturdivant retires from MMI Hospitality Group
As the hospitality industry continues to work its way through the COVID era, Gaines will remain as Chairman of the Board of MMI. “Though these are unusual economic times, they are also exciting,” Gaines stated in speaking about how MMI is positioned well for the future. Speaking of the new leadership to carry on his work at MMI, Gaines stated, “There will be many opportunities, and I am certain MMI will continue to be an industry leader and find success in everything it does.”
December 14th, 2020MMI will end 2020 with 20 management contracts in hand. Nearly two years ago we rolled out a business plan to expand our portfolio of hotels and restaurants. 20 hotels by the end of 2020.
The ink has just dried with the owner of Hotel Simone, an adults-only inn on St. Simons Island, GA. This 25-room boutique hotel opened just under a year ago and is walking distance to The King and Prince, an existing MMI-managed hotel.

July 10th, 2020MMI Hotel Group has been retained to manage revenue management services at The Wyvern Hotel, a Conde Nast Johansens property. This downtown Punta Gorda, Florida luxury lifestyle hotel overlooks the Peace River, an element of Gasparilla Sound.
“We are delighted to bring our management expertise to this well-appointed full-service property,” said Dominic Buompastore, Vice President of Operations for MMI. “With incredible views of Charlotte Harbor from its rooftop bar and St. Regis-specified room design, the hotel appeals to both business and leisure travelers. The Wyvern offers 63 rooms with views of the bustling avenues of Punta Gorda or the majestic yachts moored in Charlotte Harbor.” The amenities also include 88 Keys Florida Restaurant, a lobby-level piano bar featuring contemporary American Cuisine and authentic art.

July 18th, 2019MMI Hotel Group’s sixty-three years of hospitality has known only three individuals to serve in the role of Vice President of Operations. That is, until the recent hire of the fourth talented bearer of the title, Dominic Buompastore.
After building a respected reputation in Hyatt’s operational organization, Dominic was successful in repositioning a large Alabama, full-service hotel and joined the above-property team at Hotel Equities where he most recently served as Vice President of Operations, Full Service and Resort Division. Beyond his industry knowledge, Dominic’s sense of hospitality and appreciation for people appealed to the executive team at MMI. Micajah Sturdivant, President of MMI Hotel Group shared, “The relationship between VP of Ops and President at MMI Hotel Group must be rooted in trust, caring, and honesty. It starts with character and communication – two traits which I believe Dominic routinely demonstrates.”
Dominic shared, “I am excited to be joining MMI to be part of an organization that will allow me to utilize my experience in the industry to drive results. I want to make a positive impact and represent MMI and myself by making a difference in the lives of those that I serve.”

Focusing on partnerships with hotel owners who value the returns that engaged management can create, MMI appreciates the legacy and engagement Dave created during his career at Signature Worldwide, the leader in hospitality sales and service training.
Dave Hamilton is actually returning to the MMI Hotel Group family after a 30-year hiatus where he served as Senior Vice President and company principal for Signature Worldwide. Dave states, “For years I have admired MMI’s focus on guest service and how passionate they are about their team members.” Over the years Dave has gained a wealth of hospitality knowledge working directly with hundreds of hotel groups and thousands of sales and service leaders. Additionally, his “partnership mentality” has given him the opportunity to work directly with the worlds most respected hotel brands to maintain their positions as guest service providers and revenue leaders.
